Helping Teachers Use AI Effectively and Ethically
I am a Ph.D. candidate in the Department of Educational Psychology at the University of Illinois Chicago (UIC), specializing in Measurement, Evaluation, Statistics, and Assessment (MESA). My research focuses on measuring and improving artificial intelligence (AI) literacy in educational contexts. During my doctoral studies, I also earned a Master of Science in Statistics in Fall 2025 and a Master of Education in Spring 2026.
My Work
My work sits at the intersection of education, assessment, and artificial intelligence. Through research, teaching, and professional development, I explore how teachers can develop the confidence and judgment needed to make informed decisions about AI use in educational settings.
One example of this work is a professional development workshop I designed and delivered, Making Generative AI Helpful in Classroom Assessment. During the workshop, teachers worked collaboratively to discuss questions such as:
- How can we use AI effectively in classroom assessment?
- How can we detect AI use in student work?
- How can we prevent students from over-relying on AI?
- How can we guide students toward responsible AI use?
Developing Judgment, Not Just Skills
One of the most meaningful moments from the workshop came from a teacher who reflected that the experience helped shift her initial negativity toward student AI use. Instead of viewing AI solely as a problem to detect or prevent, she began thinking about how clear expectations, thoughtful assessment design, and explicit guidance could help students use AI responsibly.
“I have maybe also learned how to shift my ‘negativity’ in response to the use of AI when it comes to student use of these tools.”
That shift, from asking “How do I stop students from using AI?” to asking “How do I help students use AI responsibly?” captures what I believe AI literacy is really about. My goal is not simply to help teachers learn AI tools, but to help them develop the judgment needed to evaluate when, how, and why AI should be used.”
Beyond Research
Beyond my research, I enjoy working on research methodology, statistics, systematic reviews, and open science practices that promote transparency and reproducibility. I believe knowledge should be accessible and shared widely, and I am passionate about creating tools, resources, and learning opportunities that help others solve problems and learn together.
Why WordPress?
I joined the WordPress community because I value openness, collaboration, and the idea that people from different backgrounds can contribute to building and sharing knowledge.
i was first introduced to WordPress while exploring ways to create a professional online presence and share my research. What attracted me to WordPress was its open-source nature and the ability to create and share content without extensive technical expertise. As I learned more about the WordPress ecosystem, I became interested in the collaborative community behind it and its commitment to accessibility, knowledge sharing, and community learning.
I look forward to learning from the WordPress community and contributing to projects where my background in education and research can support clearer documentation, more accessible resources, and stronger community learning.I joined the WordPress community because I value openness, collaboration, and the idea that people from different backgrounds can contribute to building and sharing knowledge.
